Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Spring)

About the role

We are looking for a senior backend engineer to design, build, and maintain the core server‑side applications that power our platform. You will work closely with product, mobile, AI and engineering teams to deliver robust, scalable, and efficient services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and support core backend applications and integration interfaces for financial and insurance partners.
• Drive evolution of the backend environment focusing on robustness, efficiency, scalability and maintainability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to deliver new capabilities and platform enhancements.
• Define technical direction, evaluate architecture options and support future growth of backend systems.
• Implement and optimise automated build, test and release workflows.
• Monitor application health, troubleshoot issues and improve system performance.
• Promote engineering excellence through peer reviews, technical guidance and best‑practice adoption.
• Estimate effort, contribute to solution architecture and project planning.
• Stay up‑to‑date with emerging technologies and apply innovations to modernise the stack.

Required profile

• 6+ years of hands‑on experience building and supporting backend applications in production.
• Strong expertise in Java and modern Spring‑based development.
• Proven ability to create scalable APIs within service‑oriented or microservices environments.
• Solid SQL database skills; experience with NoSQL or search technologies is a plus.
• Experience with containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Good understanding of secure application design, authentication and authorization frameworks.
• Familiarity with event‑driven or message‑based integrations.
• Commitment to clean, dependable, maintainable software.
• Comfortable collaborating across teams and sharing technical knowledge.
