Setting Out Engineer – Data Centre Project

About the role

We are seeking a Setting Out Engineer to join a leading Irish developer on a large‑scale data centre project in Berlin. You will translate design drawings into precise on‑site markings, ensuring that foundations, structures and utilities are built exactly as intended.

Key responsibilities

• Utilise survey instruments to mark structural boundaries, foundations, walls, columns, drainage, roads and utilities.
• Conduct site levelling and as‑built surveys to verify compliance with specifications.
• Interpret construction plans, blueprints and BIM models, flagging discrepancies before they affect construction.
• Operate and calibrate equipment such as robotic total stations, GPS units and laser levels.
• Monitor quality control, including concrete pre‑ and post‑pour checks.
• Liaise with site managers, subcontractors and design teams, providing regular progress updates.
• Maintain high health and safety standards on site.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in site engineering or setting‑out roles.
• Valid Safe Pass and manual handling certifications (required in Ireland).
• Strong attention to detail, spatial awareness and communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD for dimension checks.
• Experience using survey software.
• Operation of robotic total stations.
• Use of GPS surveying equipment.
• Use of laser level devices.
