Site Reliability Engineer - Compute Systems & Network

About the role

Exoscale, a Swiss/European cloud service provider offering virtual machines and S3-compatible object storage, is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer to ensure constant availability of its platform. The role focuses on designing and maintaining base systems and hypervisor internals, including Layer 3 networking and security layers. It is open to candidates based in Spain, Germany or working remotely within the EU.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain operating systems and hypervisor fleets, from kernels through network stacks to security filtering layers.
• Contribute to routing and security automation systems.
• Help shape the operating system image strategy, from bare metal to virtual machines.
• Maintain and improve container runtimes, and improve provisioning and deployment systems.
• Improve bare metal and hypervisor system performance and contribute to the overall platform architecture.
• Develop internal tools and help make systems scalable and highly available to meet SLAs.
• Take part in code and change reviews and the on-call rotation after training.

Required profile

• Solid experience with Linux, its kernel and Systemd.
• Familiarity with KVM virtualization, network routing and transport, and encapsulation protocols.
• Good knowledge of eBPF and container runtimes.
• Experience with configuration management solutions and large-scale infrastructure.
• Good English, written and spoken; EU citizenship required.
• Curious, autonomous, loves automation and documentation, and comfortable in a distributed team.
