Software Engineer (Java) – Backend & Data Pipelines

About the role

The Mélange team builds AI‑ and rule‑based parsing and normalization solutions that transform unstructured job and CV data into structured signals used across the StepStone marketplace. As a Software Engineer you will develop, scale and operate backend services and APIs that power these data‑processing pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Python.
• Implement event‑driven data pipelines based on Kafka.
• Own services end‑to‑end: design, testing, deployment, monitoring and iteration.
• Write and maintain automated tests to ensure code quality.
• Collaborate with software engineers, ML engineers and product managers in a distributed, international team.

Required profile

• Write clean, testable backend code in Java and/or Python.
• Comfortable with distributed systems and event‑driven architectures, or eager to learn.
• Take ownership of services throughout their lifecycle.
• Commit to high code quality and automated testing.
• Pragmatic mindset focused on delivering working solutions.
