Software Engineer – Java Backend (Full‑time)

About the role

Join the Mélange team at StepStone Group and help turn unstructured job and CV data into structured signals that power our marketplace. You will work on backend services that enable AI‑ and rule‑based parsing, delivering reliable APIs used across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Python.
• Build and operate event‑driven data pipelines on Kafka.
• Own services end‑to‑end: design, testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Write and maintain automated tests to ensure high code quality.
• Collaborate with software engineers, ML engineers, and a product manager in a distributed, international team.

Required profile

• Proven ability to write clean, testable backend code in Java and/or Python.
• Comfort with distributed systems and event‑driven architectures, or a strong willingness to learn.
• Ownership mindset across the full service lifecycle.
• Commitment to code quality and automated testing.
• Pragmatic approach focused on delivering working solutions.
