Software Engineer – Query Processing

About the role

Firebolt is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Munich team and work on the core distributed query processing engine of its Postgres‑compatible analytical database. You will help improve performance, add new features such as support for open table formats and Python UDFs, and contribute to the overall architecture of the system.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain a high‑performance, vectorized query processing and optimization engine.
• Implement support for open table formats like Iceberg, ensuring correctness and extensibility.
• Collaborate on building indexes over cloud storage, semi‑structured data handling, and Python UDF integration.
• Participate in design discussions, code reviews and performance investigations across the query processing team.
• Work with engineers across the company to deliver integrated, high‑throughput query execution features.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Professional experience developing production‑grade software in modern C++ (C++20).
• Proven ability to build multi‑threaded, high‑performance systems on Linux.
• Experience with database internals and query processing concepts.
