Software Technical Support Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is a global leader in semiconductor and display manufacturing equipment. The company is seeking a Software (Technical) Support Engineer to join its Dresden team, supporting PDC‑based inspection tools.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and troubleshoot software system issues, including Microsoft Server, network topology, and application problems, and deliver rapid resolutions.
• Install, configure, and image software for early‑learning shipments, new product introductions, and first‑in‑fab tools, documenting procedures for high‑volume manufacturing.
• Develop and execute test plans, create simulators, and validate software releases against customer‑specific scenarios.
• Provide on‑site customer training, consult on factory automation, and support tool operation and settings.
• Investigate high‑value customer problems, systematic bugs, and performance issues, and report findings to managers and partners.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in software testing, documentation, and network technologies.
• Strong English communication skills; German is a plus.
• Willingness to travel up to 50 % across Europe and to the US headquarters.
