Staff Computer Vision Engineer - Localization

About the role

SE3 Labs is looking for a Staff Computer Vision Engineer to lead the development of visual localization systems for autonomous platforms. You will translate research breakthroughs into robust, real‑time software that runs on edge hardware and operates in GNSS‑denied environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimise VIO, SLAM and sensor‑fusion algorithms for UAVs and other robots.
• Improve robustness against low‑light, rain, fog, motion blur and sensor degradation.
• Develop mapping, loop‑closure, relocalisation and map‑based navigation pipelines.
• Address camera‑IMU calibration, timing, rolling‑shutter and latency challenges.
• Deploy and benchmark production code on Jetson‑class platforms and other constrained CPUs/GPUs.
• Build evaluation, replay and regression tools to validate algorithmic improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and deploying VIO/SLAM or sensor‑fusion systems in the field.
• Strong foundation in 3D geometry, linear algebra, probability, estimation and optimisation (EKF, factor graphs, bundle adjustment).
• Hands‑on experience with real cameras, IMUs, calibration and timing.
• Ability to lead complex technical projects and mentor other engineers.
• Master’s, PhD or equivalent practical experience in a relevant technical discipline.

Required skills

• Production‑grade C++ development on Linux.
• Python for analysis, tooling and evaluation.
• Experience with EKF, factor‑graph optimisation and nonlinear least‑squares solvers.
• Camera‑IMU calibration, sensor synchronisation and handling rolling‑shutter effects.
• Deployment on Nvidia Jetson or similar embedded CPUs/GPUs; CUDA knowledge is a plus.
