Sustainability Data Engineer

About the role

As a Sustainability Data Engineer at carbmee, you will turn messy customer data—from ERP exports to supplier spreadsheets—into a reliable single source of truth for carbon footprint calculations. The role blends infrastructure engineering with sustainability domain knowledge, ensuring data pipelines are robust, scalable, and accurate.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build ETL pipelines that ingest PLM, transactional, and procurement data from ERP systems (especially SAP), flat files, and APIs.
• Own data‑quality logic, including field validation, deduplication, handling missing values, and encoding business rules for emissions estimation.
• Develop and maintain integrations between carbmee EIS™ and customer systems using Python, SQL, and batch/streaming pipelines.
• Leverage LLM‑assisted mapping tools (e.g., Claude) to accelerate transformations while implementing guardrails.
• Collaborate directly with customer IT and data teams to resolve integration blockers.
• Provide feedback on recurring data‑quality patterns to improve the platform.
• Contribute to internal tooling and templates to accelerate onboarding of new customers.

Required profile

• Associate level: 1‑2 years of experience in data engineering, backend development, or technical consulting; strong Python and SQL fundamentals; interest in sustainability.
• Senior level: proven track record building and scaling production data pipelines, preferably with ERP (SAP) integrations; ability to make architecture decisions independently.
• Exposure to carbon accounting, ESG data, or regulatory reporting (CBAM, CSRD) is a plus.
