Tax Accountant – VAT Specialist

About the role

Canadian Solar is seeking a Tax Accountant with a strong focus on VAT to join its Finance team operating across Europe. Reporting to the Director of Finance Europe, you will own tax compliance and advisory matters, collaborating with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and tax authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with external tax advisors and internal teams to prepare accurate corporate income and turnover tax returns.
• Prepare for and support tax audits, acting as the primary contact for auditors and tax authorities.
• Implement, maintain, and monitor the tax compliance management system to ensure national compliance.
• Advise on cross‑functional projects with tax implications, including risk assessment for permanent establishments.
• Support transfer pricing documentation and assist during related audits.
• Coordinate international tax matters with a strong emphasis on VAT and support internal sales teams.
• Identify and implement tax optimisation and savings opportunities across the group.
• Manage liquidity planning, advance tax payments, and related account reconciliations.
• Calculate and present tax provisions in line with applicable accounting standards.
• Monitor EMEA tax law developments and proactively advise the business.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in tax law or a related discipline.
• Professional tax qualification (e.g., German Tax Consultant).
• Several years of experience in tax consulting, preferably with a Big Four firm or in‑house multinational environment.
• Strong expertise in VAT, international taxation, and corporate tax.
• Solid knowledge of EMEA tax regulations.
• In‑depth understanding of HGB and US GAAP.
• Experience with cross‑border and foreign‑trade tax matters.
• Exposure to controlling, budgeting, reporting, or auditing is a plus.

Required skills

• Advanced user of MS Excel.
• Proficient with SAP.
