University Professorship (W3) – Human Geography

About the role

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) seeks an internationally recognized scholar to fill a W3 University Professorship in Human Geography. The position is linked to the directorship of the Institute of Geography and Geoecology and combines research leadership with high‑quality teaching in both German and English.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead a theory‑driven, transdisciplinary research programme with strong societal relevance.
• Teach human geography modules across bachelor, master and teacher‑training programmes, including field trips and methodological training.
• Contribute to the master’s programme on Social and Spatial Justice in Urban Transformations.
• Participate in academic self‑administration, acquire external research funding, and foster interdisciplinary collaborations within KIT.

Required profile

• Doctorate in Geography with a strong publication record in human geography.
• Demonstrated expertise in socio‑spatial change, power, inequality and justice.
• Experience in third‑party funding acquisition and a habilitation or equivalent achievement.
• Ability to teach in German and English; German proficiency to be achieved within two years.
