Academic Researcher – Materials Science (PhD)

About the role

The Institute of Applied Materials – Advanced Working Processes (IAM‑AWP) seeks an Academic Researcher to advance the understanding of material structure‑property relationships. You will work in a cutting‑edge environment focusing on metallic and non‑metallic materials, their composites, and irradiated specimens.

Key responsibilities

• Operate FIB‑SEM systems for precise micro‑ and nanoscale characterization of metallic materials.
• Apply FIB techniques in conjunction with Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) to study neutron‑ and ion‑irradiated samples.
• Prepare specimens for TEM analysis and conduct detailed imaging and interpretation.
• Plan, execute, and document scientific projects, including data evaluation and result presentation.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Engineering.
• Completed PhD with strong expertise in TEM sample preparation and operation.
• Solid practical experience in micro‑ and nanoscale material characterization.
