AI-Driven Software Development Intern

About the role

Join Airbus Defence and Space’s Flight Dynamics team in Manching as an AI‑driven Software Development Intern. You will work on building a self‑hosted AI framework that supports requirement‑based software development and testing for safety‑critical aerospace applications.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and select open‑source Large Language Models (LLMs) based on performance in the team’s programming languages.
• Fine‑tune selected models on in‑house data, if required, using available hardware.
• Develop agentic AI components that integrate LLM capabilities into development workflows.
• Integrate AI agents into Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) used by the Flight Dynamics team.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure AI‑generated code meets strict safety and verification standards.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree program.
• Strong interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and software development for safety‑critical systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Required skills

• Familiarity with machine learning concepts and AI models.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle and code verification.
• Experience with programming languages commonly used in aerospace software (e.g., C++, Python).
• Basic knowledge of version control systems and IDE integration.
