AI Research Scientist/Engineer – Machine Learning & LLMs

About the role

Sonar is looking for an innovative AI Research Scientist/Engineer to join its Data & AI team. You will drive the next generation of Sonar's code analysis engine by applying cutting‑edge machine learning and large language model techniques to source code.

Key responsibilities

• Stay at the forefront of ML, deep learning and LLM research, especially for the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Design, prototype and validate novel models that detect bugs, vulnerabilities and code smells.
• Develop LLM‑powered features such as Retrieval‑Augmented Generation, fine‑tune models on proprietary codebases, and explore agentic systems for automated remediation.
• Build and maintain large‑scale data pipelines for code‑centric datasets.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to turn prototypes into production‑ready features.
• Document and communicate research findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning or a related quantitative field.
• Strong industry experience in machine learning and modern software engineering practices.
• Proven track record of delivering applied ML projects from idea to prototype.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Python programming
• ML/DL frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face
• Experience with LLM architectures, fine‑tuning (LoRA, QLoRA), prompt engineering
• Retrieval‑Augmented Generation pipelines, vector databases and semantic search
• Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Programming Language Processing (PLP)
• Large‑scale data processing frameworks
• Cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS
• Familiarity with Java (optional)
