About the role
The Associate Public Information Officer will support the IPBES secretariat in Bonn, working under the Head of Communications and the IPBES Executive Secretary. This role focuses on tracking, researching, and communicating environmental information to diverse audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Track, research and analyse information on assigned topics, assess news value and evaluate campaign effectiveness.
- Develop media communication products such as press briefings, releases, key messages, media packets, brochures, video clips and newsletters, and ensure their distribution.
- Organise clearance, production and distribution of information material; conduct photo and graphic research; maintain digital information assets.
- Maintain and expand a global database of media contacts.
- Draft articles or chapters for news media, newsletters, periodicals, reports and books based on official documentation.
- Identify information opportunities and propose communication approaches tailored to target audiences.
- Build and maintain relationships with key contacts, constituencies and strategic partners.
- Support the organisation of conferences, seminars, press briefings and interviews, preparing briefing materials for senior officials.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries, preparing correspondence as needed.
- Lead team efforts to collect and analyse data, providing insights for data‑driven planning and reporting.
Required profile
- Experience in public information, media relations or communications within an international or environmental context.
- Ability to research, analyse and synthesize complex information for diverse audiences.
- Strong writing and editing skills for press materials, reports and digital content.
- Excellent organisational skills to manage media contacts, events and information assets.
- Capacity to work under supervision while taking initiative on communication projects.
