Backend Engineer (Node.js) – Remote or Onsite in Germany

About the role

Join our EPOS team to design, develop, and operate backend services for a large‑scale university administration platform. You will work with Node.js in a fast‑growing environment that supports the entire student lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement micro‑services and micro‑frontends for a complex ERP‑like system.
• Build scalable, reliable APIs and integrate event‑driven architectures using Kafka.
• Deploy, monitor, and maintain services on AWS with Docker (and Kubernetes where applicable).
• Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, QA, and DevOps in an agile setup.
• Own the full lifecycle of your services, including debugging, performance tuning, and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience with Node.js.
• Solid understanding of building and operating backend services and APIs.
• Experience with event‑driven systems or messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Basic knowledge of cloud environments (AWS) and containerisation (Docker).
• Interest in complex systems, scalable architectures, and continuous learning.
