Consultant Pharmacist – Mental Health (Senior)

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a senior Consultant Pharmacist to lead mental health pharmacy services across primary and secondary care. This role combines expert clinical care for patients with complex mental health needs with strategic service development and national policy influence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical care as an independent prescriber for patients with complex mental health conditions.
• Lead the strategic development and integration of mental health pharmacy services across NHS GGC.
• Act as senior pharmacy advisor to clinicians, managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Contribute to regional and national mental health and pharmacy programmes.
• Drive service innovation, quality improvement, audit and research initiatives.
• Provide leadership, supervision and mentorship to advanced and consultant‑level pharmacists.
• Support education and workforce development in partnership with universities and professional bodies.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent) and registration with the GPhC.
• Independent Prescriber qualification.
• Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Mental Health Pharmacy (or equivalent).
• Consultant‑level practice, RPS credentialed or significant progress towards it.
• Extensive experience in mental health pharmacy and strategic service development.
• Strong leadership, communication and influencing abilities.
