Design Engineer – Driverless Vehicle Hardware

About the role

We are looking for a Design Engineer to lead the development of hardware components for our driverless vehicle platform. You will take concepts from initial sketches through detailed CAD models to production, ensuring compliance with automotive standards while balancing innovation and manufacturability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for vehicle hardware components.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to create cost-effective, production-ready designs.
• Select appropriate manufacturing processes (machining, injection molding, sheet-metal, additive manufacturing) and materials for each part.
• Validate designs, support assembly and integration, and continuously optimise for reliability and performance.
• Source, evaluate and manage external suppliers, overseeing production runs, quality control and delivery schedules.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience designing mechanical components for automotive or mobility applications.
• Strong understanding of automotive standards, DFM/DFA best practices and materials selection.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate suppliers and manage project timelines.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• SolidWorks, CATIA or Fusion 360 for 3D CAD design.
• Additive manufacturing, machining, injection molding and sheet-metal fabrication processes.
• Materials selection for automotive hardware.
