Development Engineer – Mechanical Analysis & Testing of Space Structures

About the role

Airbus Defence and Space seeks a Development Engineer to support the Mechanical Systems department in the analysis and testing of space structures. The role combines structural dynamics, FEM modelling and test oversight for satellites and high‑precision instruments.

Key responsibilities

• Support static and dynamic structural analyses for aerospace structures.
• Conduct mechanical performance analyses for high‑precision space instruments.
• Assist in vibration testing simulation and oversight for satellites and sub‑components.
• Develop FEM models using Hyperworks and NASTRAN, validate physical models.
• Perform strength verification of joints according to VDI and ESA standards.
• Help create Matlab‑based tools for workflow optimisation and data processing.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of models, analyses and test results.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• First professional experience in design and verification of aerospace structures.
• Strong knowledge of static/dynamic structural analysis and manual calculation methods.
• Proficiency with Nastran and Hyperworks for FEM modelling.
• Understanding of space‑specific requirements; experience with fibre‑composite structures is a plus.
• Proactive, structured work style and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Excellent written and spoken English; German language skills are advantageous.
