Development Engineer – Opto‑Mechanical Test Systems

About the role

Excelitas Technologies is seeking a Development Engineer to design, commission and validate complex measurement and test systems for opto‑mechanical modules and fiber assemblies. The role combines hands‑on engineering with rigorous documentation and support for series production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, commission and validate measurement and test systems, considering regulatory requirements.
• Design test procedures and define requirements for mechanical components, software and related parts.
• Conduct sensitivity analyses to identify influencing variables.
• Plan, execute and evaluate measurement campaigns for product development, verification and validation.
• Define test criteria and create structured test and inspection concepts.
• Implement measurement procedures in production and support optimisation during series production.
• Prepare test, operating, maintenance and calibration documentation.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in photonics, optical engineering, optical systems, laser technology, physics or a related field.
• Solid knowledge of technical optics (e.g., optical imaging quality, aberrations) and optical device development.
• Experience with measurement and qualification technology, preferably for manufacturing/assembly of optical and fiber systems.
• Strong analytical skills with experience in evaluating experimental data.
• Business‑fluent German and English.

Required skills

• Advanced Python scripting for data analysis.
