Director of Architecture – Lead Design Practice in Germany

About the role

AECOM is looking for an experienced Director of Architecture to lead and expand its architectural practice in Germany. This senior position combines strategic leadership with hands‑on design responsibility across the full HOAI lifecycle (LPh 1‑6).

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the strategic direction of the architecture practice in Germany, aligning business goals with measurable outcomes.
• Build, mentor and manage high‑performing multidisciplinary teams across multiple offices.
• Lead architectural design from concept through technical design, permitting, tendering and construction support, ensuring technical credibility and quality.
• Establish design standards, technical governance and quality assurance processes.
• Develop and nurture client relationships with developers, investors, public authorities and strategic partners.
• Drive market expansion, identify new business opportunities and shape the long‑term growth of AECOM’s architecture business in Germany.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in an architectural practice, preferably within a large consulting or engineering firm.
• Hands‑on design expertise covering all HOAI phases (LPh 1‑6).
• Strong track record of delivering complex projects and leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to translate strategic objectives into operational results.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
