Director of Open Innovation – Food R&D

About the role

The Director of Open Innovation will lead CJ CheilJedang’s efforts to source, assess, and integrate breakthrough food technologies into its R&D pipeline. Reporting to senior leadership, you will shape the company’s innovation strategy and build a global ecosystem of partners to accelerate product development.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an Open Innovation strategy aligned with corporate goals.
• Identify, evaluate, and prioritize emerging food technologies, trends, and disruptive innovations.
• Build and nurture relationships with startups, research institutes, industry experts, and academic partners worldwide.
• Conduct technical and business diligence on potential partners and technologies.
• Negotiate partnership agreements, joint development contracts, and technology access deals.
• Collaborate with internal R&D, marketing, and regulatory teams to integrate external solutions.
• Manage budget, resources, timelines, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (MSc) in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related discipline; MBA or PhD is a plus.
• Proven track record launching innovative food products and entering new markets.
• Extensive network within the food innovation community and experience in cross‑functional collaboration.
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of food industry science and emerging technologies.
• Experience with technology scouting, venture partnerships, or external collaborations in a CPG context.
• Understanding of intellectual property, licensing, and partnership negotiation.
