Electrical & Automation Engineer (Hybrid, Mainz)

About the role

Coherent Corp, a global leader in photonics, is seeking an Electrical & Automation Engineer to design, develop and commission electrical and automation systems for advanced laser manufacturing equipment. The role is based in Mainz, Germany and follows a hybrid work model, supporting production sites worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement electrical, electronic and automation solutions for high‑precision production equipment.
• Program, commission, test and optimise Beckhoff PLC‑based automation systems (TwinCAT).
• Create circuit concepts, electrical schematics, PCB layouts and related documentation.
• Develop test software and support equipment integration, validation and continuous improvement.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for production equipment at international manufacturing sites.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics or a comparable technical field.
• Experience in electrical engineering, industrial automation, machine development or special‑purpose machinery (open to recent graduates and experienced engineers).
• Strong understanding of electrical control systems, electronics and documentation standards.

• Commissioning, testing and troubleshooting of automated equipment
• Knowledge of mechatronic subsystems such as pneumatics, vacuum and cooling systems
