European Business Reporter – Chemical & Engineering News

About the role

ACS International Ltd., a subsidiary of the American Chemical Society, is seeking an experienced European Business Reporter to join the editorial team of Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN). Based in either the United Kingdom or Germany, you will deliver insightful coverage of companies, technologies, policies, and market forces shaping Europe’s chemical enterprise.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop breaking news, trends, and feature stories across the European chemical sector, including M&A, technology breakthroughs, market shifts, regulatory changes, IP developments, and startup funding.
• Generate original story ideas that differentiate C&EN’s coverage and add unique value for readers.
• Cover major developments in business, innovation, sustainability, policy, and emerging technologies.
• Produce content for articles, newsletters, podcasts, videos, webinars, and social media platforms.
• Maintain high journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, and ethics while meeting strict deadlines.
• Collaborate with editors, designers, multimedia producers, and audience‑engagement teams.
• Build and sustain a network of contacts in industry, academia, government, and investment communities.
• Attend and report on key industry meetings, conferences, and events throughout Europe.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, journalism, or a related field.
• Proven experience reporting on business, science, or technology topics, preferably within the chemical or industrial sectors.
• Strong curiosity, proactive attitude, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stories and meet publication deadlines.
