Freelance Government Affairs Consultant – Defence Tech (Germany)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced freelance Government Affairs Consultant to lead public‑affairs activities for defence‑technology clients in Germany. Based in Berlin with regular travel to Munich, you will act as the on‑ground point of contact for federal and Bavarian stakeholders, shaping strategy and delivering results for a fast‑growing European defence tech company.

Key responsibilities

• Manage government relations with federal and Bavarian authorities.
• Build and maintain relationships with key political and institutional contacts in Berlin and Munich.
• Support media and communications initiatives for defence‑tech clients entering the German market.
• Collaborate with agency leadership to develop and execute public‑affairs strategy.
• Represent clients at stakeholder events and industry gatherings.

Required profile

• Proven experience in government affairs, public affairs or political advisory work focused on the German market.
• Strong understanding of the German defence and security landscape.
• Excellent political instincts and stakeholder‑management skills at both federal and Länder level.
• Self‑motivated independent contractor able to manage time and deliver without extensive internal support.
• Fluent in German and English.
• Willingness to travel regularly between Berlin and Munich.
