Freelance Lecturer – Introduction to Software Engineering

About the role

CODE University seeks a freelance lecturer to deliver the OS_01 Introduction to Software Engineering module for the upcoming Fall Semester 2026. The role involves teaching in‑person workshops on the Berlin campus, introducing students from all study programs to core software engineering concepts in English.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver six 2‑hour workshops covering software architecture, basic networking, internet fundamentals and an overview of large language models.
• Guide multidisciplinary student teams in making technical decisions, building prototypes (including use of LLMs), and evaluating code quality for maintainability and security.
• Run practical programming sessions to teach basic Python coding skills.
• Assess student performance and conduct end‑of‑semester evaluations.

Required profile

• Practical industry experience as a software engineer (web, mobile, games, etc.).
• At least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• Legal entitlement to work as a freelancer in Germany and a German bank account.
• Fluent communication and teaching ability in English.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of Python.
• Basic‑level understanding of networking and internet fundamentals.
• Basic‑level understanding of the limitations and opportunities of large language models (LLMs) in development.

• Freelance contract with a 50 EUR hourly rate.
