Fuels Associate Researcher / Researcher – Berlin

About the role

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is seeking a motivated Associate Researcher or Researcher to join its Fuels program in Berlin. The role focuses on evaluating low‑GHG renewable fuel options for marine, aviation and road transport and shaping EU policy such as the Renewable Energy Directive, FuelEU Maritime and ReFuelEU.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse cost, life‑cycle GHG emissions and availability of renewable fuels including hydrogen derivatives and biofuels.
• Produce technical reports, policy briefs and articles with clear visualisations for technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Present research findings at public and private forums.
• Collaborate with ICCT’s global Fuels team, EU colleagues, external partners, policymakers and industry stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline with at least two years of experience (Associate level) or a PhD with at least three years of experience (Researcher level).
• Strong quantitative research abilities and excellent written and verbal communication in English.
• Ability to work independently, stay organized and travel occasionally within the EU.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Excel.
• Python or R programming skills.
• Experience with life‑cycle assessment and/or techno‑economic analysis (desired).
