Group Lead – Compliance & Indirect Tax

About the role

As the Group Lead for Compliance & Indirect Tax, you will head the German tax compliance function within BASF Agricultural Solutions. You will ensure accurate and timely filing of all direct and indirect tax obligations while supporting the company’s transition to an independent agricultural business.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preparation, review, and submission of all German tax filings and related reports.
• Manage tax payments, accounts, reconciliations and reporting interfaces to statutory and management systems.
• Maintain the German tax compliance calendar, monitor filing deadlines, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate work with internal teams, shared service centers, and external advisors, collaborating closely with Finance, Accounting, Controlling, Legal and business units.
• Develop and sustain an effective German tax control framework, handle tax audits, authority requests and controversy matters.
• Translate regulatory changes into operational requirements, drive automation, standardisation and support transactions or reorganisations.

Required profile

• Completed university degree in tax, accounting, law, business administration or a comparable field.
• Extensive experience in German tax compliance, including direct and indirect taxes.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage external advisors.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on process optimisation and risk mitigation.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of German tax law and regulations.
• Experience with tax filing, reporting and audit processes.
• Ability to interpret regulatory changes and implement operational solutions.
