Head of Cargo

About the role

The Head of Cargo will lead the Cologne‑based cargo division of an international aviation services group. This senior position carries full P&L responsibility, oversees operational performance, and drives growth of time‑critical logistics services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and manage a team of cargo specialists, fostering a performance‑driven culture.
• Own the P&L of the cargo business unit, targeting revenue and profit objectives.
• Design and execute sales strategies to expand the time‑critical portfolio (OBC, NFO, Direct Drive, Charter).
• Build and maintain a sustainable sales pipeline through market analysis and new customer acquisition.
• Develop tailored logistics solutions while ensuring high service levels and rapid response.
• Collaborate with internal functions on strategic projects and product development.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations across air, road and multimodal transport, ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards.
• Represent the business externally at events, with key customers and industry forums.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in freight forwarding, including senior leadership roles.
• Proven track record in time‑critical logistics and commercial sales.
• Strong commercial acumen with ability to negotiate and close high‑value contracts.
• Excellent leadership and team‑building capabilities.
