International Indirect Tax Manager (VAT)

About the role

Imperial Brands is seeking an experienced International Indirect Tax Manager (VAT) to join its Tax Centre of Expertise. Based in Hamburg, this senior position offers a hybrid working model and provides a high‑visibility platform to shape the Group’s global VAT strategy across multiple regions and business models.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and influence the Group’s global VAT agenda by advising on new business models, cross‑border supply flows, contractual structures and major corporate initiatives.
• Act as the trusted global subject‑matter authority for indirect tax (VAT), monitoring legislative developments and delivering clear, pragmatic guidance.
• Lead VAT support throughout the M&A lifecycle, including due diligence, risk evaluation, transaction structuring and post‑acquisition integration.
• Serve as a strategic interface and escalation point for the Tax & Stats Centre of Capability, partnering with Finance Business Partners and regional stakeholders.
• Manage VAT risk and controversy, supporting audits, disputes, litigation and settlements with tax authorities.
• Drive VAT transformation and capability building through policy design, process optimisation, technology‑enabled solutions and training initiatives.

Required profile

• Completed degree in economics, law or a comparable field.
• Several years of professional experience in VAT, preferably within a multinational corporation or a Big 4 advisory firm.
• Proven ability to advise on complex international VAT matters and to work closely with senior leadership.
• Strong governance and risk‑management skills, with experience handling audits and disputes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management capabilities.
