Junior Fullstack Engineer (Freelance)

About the role

Fuxam is creating a modern campus and learning‑management platform for German universities. As a Junior Fullstack Engineer on a freelance basis, you will work remotely with the engineering team to deliver end‑to‑end features, from UI components to backend APIs, while gaining hands‑on experience with AI‑enhanced functionality.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and ship product features across the stack, including React components, Next.js pages, and Node.js API endpoints.
• Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and gradually take ownership of larger pieces of the system.
• Implement AI‑driven capabilities such as LLM integrations, embeddings, and retrieval‑augmented generation patterns.
• Write clean, well‑tested, and documented code, and maintain a high quality standard.
• Collaborate closely with the CTO and senior engineers, ensuring at least four hours of overlap with CET working hours.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a software engineer with a demonstrable track record (not a fresh graduate).
• Strong judgment in design and architecture, knowing when “good enough” is sufficient.
• Comfortable working with AI tools daily (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot) and building AI features.
• Self‑motivated, independent, and able to give and receive clear technical feedback.
• Excellent English; German is a plus.
