Junior Professorship in Data Science (Tenure Track)

About the role

The German Sport University Cologne seeks a W1 Junior Professor in Data Science, progressing to a W2 tenure‑track position. The role focuses on collecting and analysing multimodal training and movement data, and developing methods to optimise training across competitive, recreational, and health‑related sports.

Key responsibilities

• Teach and supervise Bachelor’s, Master’s, Teacher Training and Doctoral programmes.
• Participate in academic self‑administration and university committees.
• Engage in interdisciplinary research projects within the Institute of Exercise Training and Sport Informatics.
• Secure and manage third‑party funded research projects.

Required profile

• Completed university studies with a Ph.D.
• Demonstrated pedagogical and teaching competence, preferably award‑winning.
• International publications in the relevant field.
• Experience applying or developing machine‑learning methods in research.
• Strong programming expertise.
• Experience with data‑collection systems in sports or health contexts.
• Methodological skills in computer science, mathematics and complex statistical inference.
• Interdisciplinary compatibility with ethical, sociological or psychological aspects of AI.
• Experience in academic self‑governance.
