Lead Construction Manager – Data Center Projects

About the role

Cumming Group is seeking a Lead Construction Manager to oversee the delivery of hyperscale and colocation data centre projects from pre‑construction through commissioning and handover. The role acts as the Owner's Representative, coordinating all construction activities, consultants, contractors and stakeholders to meet scope, budget, schedule, quality, safety and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead data centre developments from design through construction to operational handover.
• Serve as primary interface between client, consultants, contractors, authorities and utility providers.
• Establish project governance, reporting structures and communication protocols.
• Manage General Contractors, trade contractors and specialist vendors, monitoring progress and mitigating schedule risks.
• Conduct weekly and monthly construction meetings and oversee site logistics and sequencing.
• Support procurement, tender evaluation, budget monitoring, forecasting and change management.
• Review contractor payment applications, commercial claims and identify value‑engineering opportunities.
• Coordinate design development, review CSA, MEP, utility and infrastructure designs for constructability.
• Promote safety culture, ensure compliance with legislation and client standards, and manage quality assurance processes.
• Lead integrated systems testing, commissioning, energisation readiness and defect resolution.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of construction experience, preferably in mission‑critical data centre environments.
• Proven experience managing large‑scale projects, budgets and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
