Legal Counsel – Build Legal & Compliance Function

About the role

Orbem is building its legal and compliance function from the ground up as it scales its AI‑driven MRI technology across Europe and the US. As Legal Counsel you will shape corporate, commercial, employment and regulatory matters while embedding compliance as a speed‑enabler for the business.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and manage commercial contracts, supplier and partner agreements, and maintain a contract toolkit with templates and streamlined workflows.
• Own corporate governance, board support, shareholder matters and the employee equity programme.
• Set up and lead a cross‑functional compliance function covering IP, information security, product compliance, data protection and regulatory readiness (EU AI Act, Cyber Resilience Act, export controls).
• Develop core policies such as Code of Conduct and ensure they are practical for fast‑moving teams.
• Manage a lean network of external counsel, optimise costs and provide a coherent global legal strategy.

Required profile

• Qualified German lawyer (Volljurist or Wirtschaftsjurist) with solid in‑house experience in a fast‑paced environment.
• Proven track record of building legal and/or compliance processes, templates and frameworks from scratch.
• Comfort operating without a large internal team and ability to work cross‑functionally across EU and US jurisdictions.
• Strong business mindset, pragmatic risk‑balanced decision making and fluent in German and English.
