Legal Counsel – International Contracts & Data Privacy

About the role

Clariness seeks a business‑oriented Legal Counsel to support its international operations in the clinical research ecosystem. You will work closely with the Global Legal Counsel and cross‑functional teams, providing practical legal guidance on commercial contracts, data privacy, and regulatory matters related to digital patient engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and review commercial agreements (SaaS, service, cooperation) with customers, partners and service providers.
• Review English‑language contracts that incorporate US contract law concepts.
• Advise internal stakeholders on GDPR and relevant US privacy frameworks.
• Support navigation of international clinical‑trial regulations, patient recruitment frameworks, and ICH‑GCP, FDA, EMA guidance.
• Provide legal guidance on patient data processing and digital engagement.
• Translate complex legal requirements into practical, business‑oriented solutions.
• Contribute to the development of efficient legal processes using AI and LegalTech tools.
• Monitor developments in privacy law, clinical‑research regulation and digital health.

Required profile

• Law degree or equivalent qualification (LL.M., Diplom‑Jurist, Wirtschaftsjurist, etc.).
• Proven experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Experience with commercial contracts in an international environment.
• Solid understanding of data‑protection law, especially GDPR.
• Familiarity with US contract law concepts (strong advantage).
• Exposure to clinical research, healthcare, life sciences or digital health (beneficial).
• Strong analytical and drafting skills with a pragmatic, business‑oriented mindset.
• Interest in technology, AI and LegalTech.
