Legal Director – Germany, Switzerland & Austria

About the role

The Legal Director for Germany, Switzerland & Austria will act as the senior legal leader for DePuy Synthes, a Johnson & Johnson orthopaedics business. Reporting to regional business leaders, you will provide strategic legal counsel that enables compliant growth and risk‑informed decision‑making within a highly regulated medical‑devices environment.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary legal advisor for DePuy Synthes in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, guiding senior business and functional leaders on legal and compliance matters.
• Provide legal guidance on healthcare compliance, product liability, data protection and commercial contracts.
• Support complex transactions, including M&A, joint ventures and supply‑chain agreements.
• Partner closely with commercial, supply‑chain, regulatory and government‑affairs teams to manage risk and ensure ethical business practices.
• Shape and implement legal strategy that aligns with the company’s innovation goals and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a senior legal counsel within the medical‑devices or healthcare sector.
• Deep knowledge of German, Swiss and Austrian law, especially in healthcare, product liability and data protection.
• Proven ability to advise senior executives and influence business decisions.
• Strong track record of managing complex commercial transactions and regulatory compliance.
• Fluent in English and the local language(s) of the region.
