Manager, Applied AI Engineering (Codex)

OpenAI is seeking a Manager of Applied AI Engineering (Codex) to lead a high‑performing team of Applied AI Engineers in Munich (or Berlin). The role partners with strategic customers to design, build, and scale AI‑enabled software development workflows using Codex, guiding them from exploration to meaningful, scaled adoption. You will define the operating model, coach engineers, and serve as the senior technical escalation point, collaborating closely with Sales, Product, Research, and Engineering to turn customer needs into reusable patterns and product insights. Success is measured by sustained Codex adoption, successful customer outcomes, and the creation of repeatable technical patterns that increase engineering value from AI.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in technical, customer‑facing roles such as applied engineering or solutions architecture, with at least 2 years of experience leading technical teams. Strong hands‑on software engineering skills, fluency in Python and JavaScript, and experience deploying generative AI or cloud‑based solutions are required. You must be an effective communicator, thrive in ambiguous fast‑moving environments, and be committed to safe, beneficial AI development.
