Managing Director & Country Representative (Germany)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a senior leader to serve as Managing Director and Country Representative for its German office. Based in Berlin, the role will guide the strategic direction, financial health, programme quality and operational effectiveness of IRC Deutschland.

Key responsibilities

• Lead IRC Deutschland as the primary external representative, reporting to the global COO.
• Develop and execute strategies to increase visibility and influence with public, private and policy stakeholders.
• Drive diversification of funding, including new partnership development and expansion of institutional support.
• Oversee programme delivery across education, economic wellbeing, safety, legal protection and empowerment for refugees and displaced persons.
• Collaborate with the senior management team to ensure operational excellence and alignment with global IRC priorities.
• Represent IRC Deutschland within the global senior leadership network, bridging local and headquarters initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in the humanitarian, non‑profit or international development sector.
• Strong track record of fundraising, donor engagement and policy advocacy.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with government, private sector and civil society.
• Strategic thinker with ability to navigate complex funding environments.
• Fluency in English; German language proficiency is highly desirable.
