Managing Director & Country Representative

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Managing Director & Country Representative to lead its German operations. Based in Berlin, the role combines executive leadership with country‑level representation, overseeing programmes that support refugees and displaced people across Germany.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and overall leadership for IRC Germany, managing a team of around 190 staff.
• Oversee programme areas including education, economic wellbeing, safety, legal protection and empowerment.
• Represent IRC Germany to donors, government agencies, partners and the public, advocating for the rights of displaced populations.
• Ensure financial stewardship, compliance with IRC policies and local regulations, and effective resource allocation.
• Drive fundraising initiatives and cultivate strategic partnerships to sustain and expand programme impact.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian, nonprofit or development sectors.
• Proven track record of leading large, multidisciplinary teams and managing complex programmes.
• Strong understanding of refugee and displacement issues in Germany and Europe.
• Fluent in English and German, with excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
