Manufacturing Engineer – ITER Secondment Program

About the role

Proxima Fusion is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to design and manage assembly strategies for its stellarator machine program. The position is part of a unique secondment arrangement with ITER, beginning in Munich and then embedding at the ITER Organization in Cadarache, France, for a year before returning to Munich. You will work at the intersection of engineering rigor and hands‑on execution to ensure complex fusion hardware is assembled safely, precisely, and on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Develop fusion‑machine assembly work packages from system‑engineering inputs, reviewing technical data and confirming assembly strategies.
• Verify and validate data supplied to external suppliers and review the installation work packages they provide.
• Prepare comprehensive technical documentation covering specifications, execution, and surveillance of assembly work packages.
• Survey and monitor construction activities through completion, maintaining responsibility for safety, quality, and schedule.
• Identify open points in the assembly process and define process interfaces between components, systems, and associated tooling.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align assembly strategies with overall machine design.

Required profile

• Strong engineering mindset with the ability to translate system requirements into practical assembly solutions.
• Experience managing complex technical projects and coordinating with external suppliers.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and on‑time delivery in a high‑tech environment.
• Willingness to work onsite in Munich and later at ITER in France for an extended secondment.
• Passion for fusion energy and the ability to engage with cutting‑edge scientific hardware.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical information clearly.
