Master Thesis – AI Suitability Evaluation for Modelica Physical Models

About the role

Join Airbus in Hamburg as a Master thesis student to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and physical modelling. You will work on evaluating AI methods for automating Modelica‑based aircraft system simulations.

Key responsibilities

• Research literature on AI‑augmented systems engineering and prompt engineering.
• Benchmark local open‑weight LLMs and cloud‑based solutions (e.g., GCP Gemini) against Modelica architectures.
• Develop a Python‑based AI application that interfaces with the Dymola environment to generate, modify, and test models automatically.
• Analyse single‑prompt versus multi‑agent approaches for resolving compiler discrepancies.
• Implement a modular AI pipeline within the existing automation framework.
• Validate the AI toolkit on three core test cases: text‑to‑code model generation, interface migration, and automated regression test synthesis.
• Assess legal and operational boundaries, including human‑in‑the‑loop validation and EU AI Act compliance.
• Document findings and compile the final thesis.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Master programme in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong interest in systems engineering, modelling, simulation, and AI.
• Ability to work onsite in Hamburg for a six‑month period.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Modelica modelling language.
• Dymola simulation tool.
• Experience with Large Language Models and prompt engineering.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services (e.g., Gemini).
