Mechanical Design Engineer – Data Centres (Düsseldorf/Frankfurt)

About the role

RED, an international M&E consultancy within the Tractebel group, is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its German office in either Düsseldorf or Frankfurt. The role focuses on the design and coordination of mechanical systems for data centre projects, supporting the delivery of low‑energy, zero‑carbon built environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead small‑scale projects from concept through to completion.
• Research, develop and design mechanical installations, specifying controls, instruments and operating systems.
• Survey, test and report on existing mechanical/electrical installations.
• Prepare and modify specifications using Word or Excel.
• Ensure engineering calculations and drawings meet industry, legal and client standards.
• Validate input from intermediate and graduate engineers.
• Represent RED at technical meetings with clients, professional teams and contractors.

Required profile

• Fluent German and professional working proficiency in English.
• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Experience in specification design/drawing for at least one building type.
• Good knowledge of health and safety legislation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel.
• Ability to use IT‑based calculation and spreadsheet software.
• Familiarity with BS standards and German/International regulations.
