Mechanical Design Engineer – Data Centres (Düsseldorf/Frankfurt)

About the role

RED, an international M&E consultancy, is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its German office in either Düsseldorf or Frankfurt. You will work on data‑centre projects, handling the design, coordination and delivery of mechanical and electrical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead small‑scale projects from concept through delivery.
• Research, develop and design mechanical/electrical installations, controls, instruments and operating systems.
• Survey, test and report on existing installations.
• Prepare and modify specifications using Word or Excel.
• Ensure calculations and drawings meet industry, legal and German standards.
• Represent RED at technical meetings with clients, contractors and professional teams.
• Validate input from intermediate and graduate engineers.
• Support project delivery according to RED’s Project Delivery Process (PM, finance, QA/QC, technical review).

Required profile

• Fluent German and professional working proficiency in English.
• Diploma or degree in engineering or equivalent experience; working towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Experience in specification design/drawing for at least one building type.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation.
• Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
• Managerial skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Required skills

• Mechanical design and specification drafting.
• MS Office suite, especially Excel.
• IT‑based calculation and spreadsheet software.
• Knowledge of BS standards, German regulations and codes.
• Understanding of health and safety legislation.
