Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Dexter Magnetic Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop precision magnetic parts and assemblies from concept through series release. The role bridges mechanical engineering, magnetics, and manufacturing, ensuring designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability targets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D CAD models for magnetic components, housings, and precision parts.
• Perform mechanical calculations, tolerance analyses, and material selection for metallic and non‑metallic parts.
• Apply Design‑to‑Cost and Design‑for‑Manufacturing principles during concept development.
• Collaborate with magnetics engineers, sales, and customers to create and evaluate solution concepts.
• Support prototyping, testing, and iterative design improvements.
• Prepare technical drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation within ERP/PDM systems.
• Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with internal teams and customers.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools, standards, and methodologies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Precision Engineering or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design or product development.
• Hands‑on experience with CAD design and mechanical assemblies.
• Experience with tolerance management and manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, grinding or joining.
• Exposure to high‑precision industries (Aerospace, Medical, Semiconductor) is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or comparable).
• Knowledge of materials, mechanical interfaces and structural design principles.
• Design‑to‑Cost, DFM/DFA and Value Engineering methods.
• Familiarity with ERP/PDM systems.
• Tolerance analysis and mechanical calculation capabilities.
