Metrology Test Internship – Precision Measurement

About the role

Airbus is offering a 3‑6 month Metrology Test internship at its Hamburg Finkenwerder plant. The intern will support advanced manufacturing operations by performing high‑precision measurements and contributing to the quality assurance of aerospace components.

Key responsibilities

• Execute precision measurement protocols in a research and development environment.
• Perform dimensional inspections using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) on prototypes and tooling.
• Develop, modify and optimise CMM programmes with PC‑DMIS or Calypso based on CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Analyse measurement data against specifications and GD&T requirements.
• Assist in the setup, calibration and maintenance of metrology equipment such as Laser Trackers and Optical Scanners.
• Conduct measurement‑uncertainty analysis and support continuous improvement of test procedures.
• Document results and contribute to technical reports.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a relevant degree programme (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, Aerospace Engineering).
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Good communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Operation of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
• Proficiency with PC‑DMIS or Calypso software.
• Interpretation of CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Familiarity with Laser Tracker and Optical Scanner equipment.
