Microwave Design Engineer – RF & Thermal Design for Fusion

About the role

Proxima Fusion is developing the hardware needed for the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant. As a Microwave Design Engineer you will help build the millimeter‑wave hardware that initiates the fusion plasma and raises its temperature above 100 million °C.

Key responsibilities

• Provide innovative solutions to complex RF engineering challenges while ensuring designs meet Alpha plasma physics and thermal‑mechanical constraints.
• Develop and evaluate vendor designs to optimise power delivery to the stellarator, reducing input power and overall cost.
• Contribute to mechanical and thermal analysis and sensitivity studies for component viability under vacuum, magnetic fields, high temperatures and MW‑scale RF loads.
• Interface with Alpha project management teams to deliver RF components on schedule.

Required profile

• Highly capable RF engineer with experience in millimeter‑wave design and multi‑physics simulations.
• Familiarity with RF modelling codes such as SURF3D, CST, COMSOL, GdfidL, openEMS and custom Python scripts.
• Experience validating first‑of‑a‑kind designs, working on multi‑scale simulations, testing and prototyping.
