Mission Analysis and Flight Dynamics Engineer

About the role

Airbus Defence & Space is seeking a Mission Analysis and Flight Dynamics Engineer to join its System Delivery Germany team in the Munich area. You will be responsible for the full orbital‑mechanics lifecycle of GEO SATCOM satellites, from early mission analysis to active collision avoidance and software development supporting satellite operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive mission analysis for GEO SATCOM satellites.
• Develop and optimise orbit manoeuvre strategies, including low‑thrust and chemical propulsion.
• Manage orbit maintenance, station‑keeping, re‑location and de‑orbiting operations.
• Provide orbit and attitude predictions for mission planning and collision avoidance.
• Lead software development for mission analysis and flight‑dynamics tools.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in mission analysis and flight dynamics.
• Strong background in orbital mechanics, reference frames, propagation and constellation design.
• Hands‑on experience with satellite attitude kinematics and dynamics.
• Experience in an operational flight‑dynamics environment is a plus.

Required skills

• Mission analysis tools such as GMAT, STK/Ansys, FreeFlyer.
• Orbital mechanics and orbit determination techniques.
• Satellite attitude modelling and guidance.
• Optimization theory applied to manoeuvre planning.
