Network Engineer (all genders)

About the role

As a Network Engineer at NFON you will join a dedicated, innovative team responsible for maintaining and expanding a highly redundant network across three data‑center locations and external connections. The infrastructure targets 99.999% availability, making the network a critical component of the business. You will work on both layer‑2 switching and layer‑3 routing, including dynamic protocols and firewall policy design.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance the network automation stack built on Saltstack.
• Maintain monitoring solutions such as LibreNMS, WAN Guard and SuzieQ.
• Coordinate hardware installation and maintenance with on‑site remote hands in the data centres.
• Act as Engineer of the Day for network overwatch.
• Create VLANs, IP prefixes and firewall policies to support development teams.
• Operate DCIM tools Netbox and SnipeIT and keep RIPE database objects up to date.
• Handle peering requests at IXPs (DECIX, LINX) and manage EVPN/MPLS inter‑connects.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a network engineer.
• Hands‑on knowledge of Cisco, Arista or Juniper devices.
• Experience with network firewalls such as Juniper SRX, Cisco ASA or PaloAlto.
• Comfortable working on a Linux command line.
• Familiarity with container orchestration tools (Docker and/or Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Fluent English; German language skills are advantageous.
