Plasma Physicist

About the role

Proxima Fusion seeks a highly skilled Plasma Physicist to join its stellarator design team in Munich. The role will shape the architecture of the world’s first commercial fusion power plant, develop scientific analysis workflows, and drive research in magnetic confinement fusion.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the definition of requirements and conceptual design of critical stellarator components such as heating systems and divertors.
• Lead the development of advanced simulation and modelling workflows for plasma behavior.
• Collaborate across tightly coupled disciplines (magnets, cryogenics, controls, manufacturing) to resolve trade‑offs and integrate hardware.
• Produce scientific reports and publish results openly to accelerate the fusion ecosystem.
• Support hardware testing and validation activities.

Required profile

• PhD in plasma physics, fusion science or a closely related field.
• Proven experience in magnetic confinement fusion research, preferably with stellarators.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work in an interdisciplinary, fast‑moving environment.
• Excellent communication skills for scientific publishing and collaboration with academic partners.
