Postdoctoral Research Associate in Natural Language Processing

About the role

We are seeking a postdoctoral research associate to join the Language Technology Group at Universität Hamburg. The role combines independent research in multimodal natural language processing with teaching responsibilities and the opportunity to develop research prototypes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 4 lecture‑hours per semester (LVS) in basic and specialized NLP courses and co‑supervise student theses.
• Conduct independent research on multimodal and cross‑modal language processing, including lexical semantics, sentiment analysis, argument mining, and document visualization.
• Develop prototype applications and contribute to third‑party funded projects.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in Digital Humanities, Computational Social Science, and Computational Legal Studies.

Required profile

• University degree in a relevant field and a completed doctorate.
• Strong publication record in venues such as ACL, COLING, Computational Linguistics Journal, or related conferences.
• Fluent English; German is a plus but not mandatory.
